The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records once a student turns 18 or attends a postsecondary institution.
Under FERPA regulations, university staff cannot discuss grades, class schedules, or financial records with parents without written consent. Students can authorize parents by completing the FERPA Release Authorization in their MyUB student portal.
How can I access my student’s billing statement?
Due to federal FERPA regulations, parents cannot view billing statements directly unless their student designates them as an Authorized User in the TouchNet Student Account Center. Once designated, you will receive your own login credentials to view bills and make payments.
When is Family Weekend celebrated?
Family Weekend is held annually in October in conjunction with Knights Fest Homecoming. It features campus tours, athletic events, family dinners, and student performances. Check our events calendar for registration dates.
What should I do if I am concerned about my student’s well-being?
If you have concerns about your student’s physical or mental health, contact Student Affairs at 203-576-4392 or Campus Security at 203-576-4912. Our staff will conduct a wellness check and connect your student with counseling and support services.
