At University of Bridgeport, transformative education begins in the classroom. Whether you are leading a first-year seminar, mentoring doctoral clinical research, or rethinking assignment design with generative AI tools, the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) is your dedicated partner on campus.
Our mission is simple: to cultivate an innovative, evidence-based, and compassionate educational environment across our three colleges. We provide a collaborative haven where faculty can experiment with emerging educational technologies, hone pedagogical craft, and celebrate the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

Course Innovation Mini-Grants ($1,000 – $2,500)
CELT awards competitive mini-grants each fall and spring semester to faculty who design novel course interventions, active learning modules, or interdisciplinary projects. Recipients present their findings at the annual UB RISE Symposium.
Open Educational Resources (OER) Adoption Stipends
To reduce textbook costs for UB students, CELT offers $500–$1,000 adoption stipends for professors who replace commercial textbooks with high-quality, peer-reviewed Open Educational Resources (OER).
New Faculty Teaching Onboarding (Cohort 1)
A year-long mentoring community for newly appointed full-time and adjunct instructors, focusing on campus resources, effective grading rubrics, student accommodations, and classroom management.
Quality Matters (QM) Course Design Review
Instructional designers review online and hybrid courses against the national Quality Matters rubric, providing constructive feedback to maximize clarity, engagement, and accessibility.
