Universal Design for Learning
Our master’s in Teacher Leadership degree program is designed for creative and analytical advocates and educators. You will develop the skills, techniques, and experience to increase access to learning by reducing and removing physical, cognitive, intellectual, and organizational barriers for your students.
The UDL framework
You will learn how to apply the Universal Design for Learning framework to proactively design capacity-building learning experiences. Within UDL, learner variability, whether visible or invisible, is seen as an asset. Based in cognitive neuroscience, UDL focuses on designing with variability in mind.
A cohort model
This program’s cohort model emphasizes a collaborative classroom where professors are mentors, providing creative and memorable in-the-moment coaching. You will also have access to a dedicated librarian for graduate students and online workshops.
On a teacher’s timeline
Our flexible, 30-credit program is entirely online, an optimal fit for those who teach full time or care for their families. Up to 6 credits can be granted to students entering the program from prior learning as part of the Alternative Route to Certification, and students can complete the remaining credits in as few as 15 months part time. Program length may vary by individual.
The benefits of two universities
This is a joint program offered by Goodwin University and University of Bridgeport. You will learn alongside fellow students from both universities and share experiences in a rich learning environment. Upon completion, your master’s degree will list both universities. No GRE is required.
Meet the Teacher Leadership (M.Ed.) Program Director
Scott Fellows, MS, Ed.D.
With more than 35 years of experience as a teacher, administrator, and educational leader, Dr. Scott Fellows brings extensive expertise and a deeply student-centered philosophy to the Teacher Leadership (M.Ed.) program.
A lifelong educator, Dr. Fellows began his career teaching mathematics in Regional School District 1, Connecticut’s first regional district, where he served six towns and multiple generations of learners. His leadership experience spans several administrative positions, including assistant superintendent, interim superintendent, and interim principal. He has also taught education at the college level and has served on the M.Ed. program’s advisory committee since it was first established.
For Dr. Fellows, teacher leadership is about influencing the broader educational landscape and helping both students and schools reach their full potential. He believes the joint University of Bridgeport and Goodwin University Teacher Leadership (M.Ed.) program offers a distinctive advantage by uniting educators from diverse backgrounds and districts. Above all else, Dr. Fellows encourages today’s educators to keep students at the center of every decision. “If you always put kids first,” he says, “everything else will follow.”

Admission requirements
How to apply
Graduate applicants are required to complete a graduate application for admission.
Program prerequisites
- Submit an official or unofficial transcript verifying receipt of a bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), or the equivalent of this degree from another country, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Submit an official or unofficial transcript from your most recent degree earned, which may be from prelicensure, with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Applicants with less than a 3.0 CGPA may be considered for conditional admittance into the program under certain circumstances.
Required materials
- Complete a graduate application for admission
- Provide a professional resume
- Submit proof of immunizations for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella
- Interview with program directors and/or faculty for admittance
- Provide strong recommendations highlighting excellence in the applicant’s professional experience
- Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to graduate once accepted into the program.
