Earn a BS and an MPH in five years
University of Bridgeport offers an accelerated 4+1 MPH degree track for undergraduate Health Science students with a concentration in community health.
Students begin master-level studies during their senior year, earning both degrees in only five years.

Application materials
- UB graduate program application
- An official transcript verifying receipt of a bachelor’s degree
- The degree must be from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or the equivalent from another country
- Cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- No GRE or GMAT is required.
Curriculum
A competency based curriculum
The MPH online program prepares its graduates for a variety of roles in public health administration, policy, and advocacy through content that engages both the science and practice of public health management. The skills acquired are both practical and transferable to a number of healthcare fields.
Core competencies
The curriculum goes beyond the core and foundational public health competencies expected of an MPH.
Disability inclusion
In 2024, the MPH program integrated the Including People with Disabilities: Public Health Workforce Competencies into the curriculum, in partnership with the Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service at UCONN.
Universal Design for Learning
The program uses the principles of Universal Design for Learning and integrates real-world experiences into the curriculum, ensuring every student feels valued and included.

CEPH applicant status
University of Bridgeport/Goodwin University is an applicant for accreditation by the Council on Education for Public Health. The accreditation review will address the Master of Public Health program. Other degrees and areas of study offered by this institution will not be included in the unit of accreditation review.
Meet the Master’s in Public Health Program Director
Meredith Gaffney has over 25 years of experience in the primary and public health fields. She first earned her BA in International Relations from Ohio State University and her master’s in Public Health from Tulane University. Later, she pursued postgraduate studies abroad in Medical Parasitology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Gaffney’s career is a testament to her hands-on approach in the global healthcare sector. She has successfully planned projects and managed grants with renowned organizations like UNICEF and USAID. Her impactful work extends to the grassroots level through her contributions to community organizations.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that education should foster critical thinking and real-world application. This philosophy is reflected in the MPH curriculum, which goes beyond the core and foundational public health competencies. In her spare time, she has volunteered her expertise to organizations from the United States Peace Corps to the Branford Land Trust, the Branford Board of Education, and the Girl Scouts of America.
