What you will study

The BS in Sport Management prepares graduates for careers in athletics from athlete management, team branding, sports marketing, and more. Students will learn both a breadth of knowledge in Sport Management as well as practical skills necessary to become professional Sport Management practitioners. The program is designed to integrate rigorous instruction, project-based learning, and field experience in order to prepare our students for a dynamic Sport Management career.

eSports

eSports concentration

This track prepares you for a career in eSports administration and management at the scholastic, collegiate, and professional levels.

You will learn effective broadcasting strategies and explore the contemporary issues facing eSports and professional gaming. The concentration covers the technology behind video games and provides an overview of the hardware components and software packages used. Graduates of UB’s eSports concentration go on to have rewarding careers working for video gaming companies and eSports organizations.

eSports minor

A 15-credit eSports minor

A minor in eSports provides the practical knowledge and experience for a career in eSports administration and management at the scholastic, collegiate, or professional levels.

This 15-credit minor covers video gaming technology and provides an understanding of the different hardware and software components used in eSports. You will explore the financial, legal, and ethical practices within eSports as well as the business and administrative aspects of eSports ventures, and learn effective broadcasting strategies including streaming, writing strategies, play-by-play, and production.

Sports Marketing

Sports Marketing concentration

This track prepares you with the knowledge and experience you need to influence the careers of the athletes you work with.

Sports marketing is a division of marketing that concentrates on the promotion of sports events and teams, and can include the promotion of products and services through sporting events and sports teams. You will have access to internship opportunities in the University’s athletics departments. At UB you will take 18 core business courses covering principles of finance, business analytics, business communication, operations management, and principles of accounting.

In the eSports program, you will expand your gaming skills in a new state-of-the-art eSports lab, have the option to join the eSports club, and compete against students from around the world. UB’s eclectic population will provide you with a collaborative team of peers to support you in this program. The combined education from the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business in Sport Marketing and eSports will give you a well-rounded education to become a business professional in the world of eSports and gaming.
