Community Service and Collaboration

The community service component of the Fones School of Dental Hygiene is renowned among dental hygiene programs across the country. Its purpose is to continue the community outreach philosophy of Dr. Alfred C. Fones, applying the theories and concepts of public health when providing oral healthcare to community populations. Fones students and faculty provide oral health education, screenings, preventive services, and referrals to more than 9, 000 people annually throughout Southwestern Connecticut and adjacent regions. The Fones School is an essential health delivery partner in the Greater Bridgeport area and is recognized in Connecticut and nationally as a model for public health access to care. All outreach services are performed by students enrolled full-time in our accredited dental hygiene program and are supervised by licensed dental hygiene faculty.
