From filing your Intent to Graduate with the Registrar to ordering caps, gowns, and honor cords — ensure every requirement is met for degree conferral.
Registrar Degree Pre-Certification Window
To participate in Commencement, all candidates must apply to graduate through the MyUB student portal. Program certifiers and academic deans verify degree requirements, credit thresholds, and GPA standards between February 1 and March 1.

4-Step Candidate Completion Checklist
Follow this sequence to ensure zero delays in your degree verification and diploma release.
Apply for Graduation via MyUB
Log into the Student Portal to submit your formal graduation application and confirm the exact name spelling for your diploma.
Resolve Financial & Library Holds
Check Student Financial Services to satisfy any outstanding tuition balance, residence hall fees, or library items.
Order Regalia Before Deadline
Order your cap, gown, hood, and tassel through the Jostens portal before the late March ordering cutoff date.
Complete Senior Survey & Claim Tickets
Fill out the mandatory graduation outcome survey and claim your electronic guest admission tickets.
Academic Attire
Regalia Orders & Degree Dress Codes
All participants must wear official University of Bridgeport academic regalia.
Undergraduate Candidates (AS / BS)
- Navy blue UB bachelor’s gown
- Traditional four-corner mortarboard cap
- Official University tassel with graduation year charm
- Optional military veteran or student organization stoles
Master's Candidates (MS / MBA / MPH)
- Black master’s gown with oblong oblong sleeves
- Discipline-specific velvet trimmed master’s hood
- Mortarboard cap with black tassel
- Hoods must be brought to the ceremony pre-draped
Doctoral Candidates (DC / EdD / DHSc)
- Fine doctoral gown with velvet front panels and chevrons
- Doctoral velvet tam (beret-style cap)
- Degree-specific doctoral hood (Chiropractic, Education, Health Sciences)
- Doctoral candidates are hooded on stage by faculty deans
Latin Honors & Recognition Societies
Undergraduate students with exemplary cumulative GPA averages are awarded Latin Honors, which are announced during the reading of names and noted permanently on academic transcripts.
Honor cords are distributed to eligible graduates at cap and gown pickup.
- Summa Cum Laude: Cumulative GPA of 3.80 – 4.00 (Gold Cord)
- Magna Cum Laude: Cumulative GPA of 3.60 – 3.79 (Silver Cord)
- Cum Laude: Cumulative GPA of 3.40 – 3.59 (Bronze Cord)
- Chi Alpha Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Theta Tau national honor society medallions
Can I participate in Commencement if I have a few credits left for summer?
Yes. Students within 6 credits of degree completion who are registered for summer coursework may petition the Registrar for permission to ‘walk’ in the May Commencement ceremony.
Where do I pick up my regalia if I didn't have it shipped home?
Regalia shipped to campus can be picked up at the UB Bookstore located on the ground floor of the Wahlstrom Library during Commencement Week.
Is regalia purchase included in the graduation fee?
No. The university graduation fee covers degree processing, diploma printing, and ceremony production. Regalia is purchased separately through our approved regalia partner, Jostens.
