Accommodated Testing for Students with Disabilities
The Testing Center coordinates closely with Student Accessibility Services (SAS) to provide testing accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504. Accommodations include private testing cubicles, extended time (1.5x or 2.0x), screen reading software, and distraction-reduced environments.
Testing Center Rules & Security Guidelines
Mandatory Government or Student Photo Identification
All test takers must present a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, passport, state ID) or official UB Student ID card before any exam will be released.
Prohibited Electronic Devices & Personal Belongings
Smartphones, smartwatches, fitness trackers, wireless earbuds, calculators (unless explicitly authorized in writing by the course instructor), and personal bags must be stored in center-provided secure lockers prior to entering the testing lab.
Faculty Make-up Exam Reservation Deadline
Instructors must submit make-up exam materials and specific instructions at least 24 hours in advance. Students must reserve their testing seat through the Heckman Testing Center booking portal.
Academic Integrity Code Strict Enforcement
All testing stations are monitored via closed-circuit video and live proctors. Any instance of suspected academic dishonesty will result in immediate termination of the exam and referral to the Dean of Students.
How do I take the math or English placement exam before orientation?
New incoming undergraduate students receive an automated email from Admissions containing their placement test credentials. Exams can be taken remotely via secure browser or in person at the Testing Center.
How much does a CLEP exam cost and how do credits transfer?
CLEP exam fees are paid directly to the College Board, with a nominal proctoring fee payable to UB. Scores meeting university standards are awarded course credit as reflected in the UB Academic Catalog.
How far in advance do I need to book an accommodated exam?
Students with approved testing accommodations must reserve their exam seat at least 3 business days in advance (and 5 business days for midterms and final exams) to ensure proctor staffing.
