A schedule built around your life
UB’s flexible RN program is designed to fit into your busy life. With three cohorts beginning each year, UB offers more opportunities to start and move forward, helping you avoid long delays that can happen at programs with limited annual enrollment. Nursing classes are offered two to three evenings per week, and clinical options include days, evenings, and weekends, so you can still work while completing your degree. You can complete your nursing courses in as few as 20 months part time, with additional time required to complete prerequisite courses.
Admission
What you need to apply
Our RN program is a selective admission program, meaning you can apply only after you complete all the prerequisite coursework. Applicants are evaluated using a Selection Point System, which considers academic performance and other admission criteria. Each semester we select the top 40 applicants.
Admission requirements
- Completed University of Bridgeport application
- Proof of high school completion or its equivalent
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75 minimum
- All prerequisite courses completed by the start of nursing courses
- Submission of all official transcripts if coursework has been taken elsewhere
- Recommendation forms, no letters are accepted
- Short essay response to the focused prompt
- If the prompt is not answered, the essay is not evaluated.
Testing and coursework
- TEAS 7 within 2 years, minimum score accepted is 58
- You may repeat the exam if it is done by the application deadline
- All math and science courses (MAT 103, BIO 113, BIO 114, CHEM 105, BIO 106) must be taken within 5 years of application
- A grade of C+ or higher is required in both lecture and lab
- Recommendations must be submitted by mentors, employers, teachers, or counselors.
RN to BSN dual admission
- ADN students have the option to dual enroll in the RN to BSN program
- Take general education courses toward the RN to BSN while enrolled in the ADN
- Dual enrollment can begin in the fall semester of your second year
- Financial aid is available, and we accept applications on a rolling basis.

What you will study
The associate degree in Nursing curriculum is designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice through a combination of classroom instruction, skills training, and hands-on clinical experiences. Total semester hours: 71.

You will build a strong foundation in patient-centered care, clinical decision-making, and evidence-based nursing practice.

Clinicals are offered in settings throughout the state, including hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, schools, and community settings.
Licensure preparation
Coursework and clinical training will help prepare you for the National Council Licensure Examination and the transition into professional nursing practice.

The Nursing Skills and Simulation Center
During your time in the RN program, you will work in UB’s Skills and Simulation Center and clinical settings throughout the greater Bridgeport area. These hands-on experiences provide opportunities to practice your nursing skills before you meet patients.

Frequently asked questions
What does this program entail?
The UB RN program consists of five semesters of part-time Nursing classes. Additional time may be required to complete your prerequisite coursework. During your core Nursing semesters, you will have two lecture days and two clinical days per week. Clinicals may take place on days, nights, or weekends, depending on your clinical schedule.
What is the selection process?
Once you’ve satisfied all admission criteria, selection is made based on the point system. Students are ranked according to the following criteria: Total score – Completed University of Bridgeport courses – GPA Each semester we select the top 40 applicants.
When do I apply to the RN program?
Nursing applications are accepted 3 times per year. Please get in touch with the Admissions department or your advisor for exact dates.
Are online courses available?
Core RN Nursing courses are only offered on-ground. Depending on your academic background, you may have the option to take certain prerequisite courses online.
How are clinical locations chosen?
Clinical locations may be located anywhere within 75 miles of campus, although we try to work with students, when possible, on location.
When are clinical hours offered?
Clinicals are offered in various settings throughout the state, including hospitals, medical centers, nursing homes, schools, and community settings. They typically have day, evening, and weekend options available, but times and days may vary between each facility.
How many times can I apply to the RN program?
You can apply to the UB RN program a maximum of 6 times.
Who should submit a recommendation form on my behalf?
Acceptable recommendations must be submitted by mentors, employers, teachers, or counselors.
Where do I sign up for the TEAS?
You must register for the exam on atitesting.com . Here you will create an account. Please select University of Bridgeport as the school to receive test results. The nursing application lists registration dates, directions, locations, and testing dates. These are subject to change each semester.
Can I retake the TEAS if I don't like my score?
You can retake the TEAS. If you retake it, you need to ensure that your results are submitted by the application deadline.
Do TEAS scores expire?
TEAS scores are accepted 2 years from the date of exam completion. TEAS scores must be transferred to University of Bridgeport for review before the due date. TEAS must be Version 7 Exam.

Effective April 27, 2026, this Nursing program is a candidate for initial accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. This candidacy status expires in spring 2028.
