The Daily Crime & Fire Incident Log
Campus Safety maintains a continuous log of all crimes, fire alarms, and reported safety occurrences within UB’s Clery geography.nnThe log includes the date and time the incident occurred, the date and time it was reported to Campus Safety, the general location, and the current disposition of the complaint.

Understanding Clery Geography
Federal law mandates that Clery Act crime statistics encompass three distinct geographic areas associated with University of Bridgeport.nnUnderstanding these parameters ensures transparent reporting across campus borders, adjacent public thoroughfares, and student-affiliated organizations.
- On-Campus Property: Any building or property owned or controlled by UB within the same reasonably contiguous geographic area and used in direct support of institutional purposes.
- On-Campus Student Housing: Residence halls including Bodine, Barnum, Chaffee, Cooper, and Seeley Hall.
- Non-Campus Property: Facilities controlled by officially recognized student organizations or remote research locations.
- Public Property: Thoroughfares, streets, sidewalks, and Seaside Park borders immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus.
Campus Security Authorities (CSAs) & Reporting Obligations
Who Qualifies as a Campus Security Authority?
Under federal regulations, CSAs include Campus Safety personnel, Dean of Students staff, residential life hall directors and resident advisors (RAs), athletic coaches, club advisors, and Title IX investigators. Pastoral and professional mental health counselors are exempt from mandatory reporting when acting in that confidential capacity.
Mandatory CSA Incident Documentation Duty
CSAs who witness or learn of any Clery Act crime (including murder, sex offenses, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft, arson, or hate crimes) are legally obligated to report the details to Campus Safety immediately for statistical inclusion and Timely Warning evaluation.
Clery Geography Definitions (On-Campus, Non-Campus, Public Property)
Clery statistics reflect specific geographic boundaries: On-Campus property (including residence halls), Non-Campus property owned or controlled by recognized student organizations (such as Greek housing), and Public Property immediately adjacent to and accessible from campus (streets, sidewalks, and public parks).
Where can prospective students and employees read the Annual Security Report?
The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report is available online on the Campus Safety website and in printed format upon request at the Campus Safety office in Norseman Hall.
Does reporting an incident for Clery statistics require police involvement?
No. Statistical reporting for Clery compliance does not require filing a formal criminal complaint with the Bridgeport Police Department, allowing survivors to seek support confidentially.
How are fire safety statistics tracked for residence halls?
Campus Safety and Facilities inspect fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, and sprinkler heads in all residential facilities (Bodine, Barnum, Chaffee, Cooper, Seeley), logging all drills and alarms.
