Curriculum
What you will study
When you earn your Mechanical Engineering degree at UB, you will secure your spot in one of the industry’s most rapidly evolving fields, learning the fundamentals of engineering, the basics of computer-aided design tools, and more, with a focus on lab and project experiences.
A foundation for success
You will be introduced to fundamental concepts such as computer-aided engineering tools, communication skills, and manufacturing processes, giving you a solid foundation on which to build your career.
Motion, force, and energy
As you progress you will apply the principles of motion, force, and energy to the design, development, manufacturing, testing and maintenance of mechanical systems.
Meaningful collaboration
You will engage in hands-on experimentation and learn how to function effectively on a team, establishing goals, planning tasks, and meeting objectives to simulate real-world team dynamics.
Problem-solving
Our expert faculty use project-based learning to simulate real-world scenarios, giving you the experience needed to contribute to advancements in the field.
Two degrees in five years
This program allows you to complete your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in just five years of study. Not only will you develop expertise in fundamental and emerging disciplines of engineering, but you will be able to progress more quickly through your coursework by taking additional credits for several semesters, leading you to a fast-tracked, rewarding career in engineering. In addition to your core classes, you will grow skills in collaboration, communication, creativity, time management, and problem-solving while taking courses in humanities, mathematics, and the natural and social sciences.

Outcomes and careers
The broadest engineering discipline
Mechanical engineering is the broadest and most versatile engineering discipline, providing the skills to work in almost every industry that needs the design and manufacture of parts, devices, or systems.
What graduates can do
Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors. Communicate effectively with a range of audiences. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities and make informed judgments. Function effectively on a team. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions. Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed.
